Truck of the Year for 2001: The Chevrolet Tahoe LT

July 17th, 2010

Chevrolet Tahoe

Buyers of the Chevrolet Tahoe are aware of the reputation of the truck they are purchasing. The Tahoe has been one of the premier vehicles of the Chevrolet line for years. It is considered an institution of a truck and the 2001 model is no exception. The Chevrolet Tahoe falls into the sport utility for the family category. People who purchase the Tahoe have been doing so for the last few generations in a family. It is a constant that only gets better with age.

Performance

The Tahoe LT is equipped with a General Motors 4.8 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The fuel system for the 2001 Tahoe is a SFI design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 26.00 gallons.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The Tahoe has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The truck uses torsion bar front springs and coil in the rear.

Tahoe LT Statistics

The dimensions of the Tahoe LT are 78.90 inches wide by 198.90 inches long. It sits a comfortable 74.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 116.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $24,941 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $21,823. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

A powertrain warranty is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the Chevrolet Tahoe.

Fuel Efficiency

The Tahoe LT received a miles-per-gallon rating of fourteen in-city driving and eighteen when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

Conclusion

The 2000 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Tahoe. The 2001 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Tahoe LT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
