When you think of the “Chevrolet Tracker” what will usually come to mind for Chevrolet enthusiasts is quality, stability and lots of history. The Tracker has been one of the premier vehicles of the Chevrolet line for over ten years. It is an important truck and the 2002 model is no exception. The Chevrolet Tracker falls into the sedan for the family category.
2002 Chevrolet Tracker Base Specs
The restyled Tracker Base is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2001 version.
The Tracker uses drum-assisted brakes, with ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a -steering -style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.
The fuel system for the 2002 Tracker is a traditional MPI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 16.90 gallons.

The Tracker is 162.60 inches long, 67.30 inches wide, and 65.60 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 97.60 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.
The standard warranty period for the Tracker is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sedan market.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $16,790 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $15,816. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Sedan.
MPG Ratings
The 2002 Tracker gets 26 miles/gallon on the highway and only 23 in the city. This is below average for a sedan truck.
In 2001 and 2002 the Tracker Base was availble in the exterior colors of Black, Indigo Blue Metallic, Light Bronzemist Metallic, Medium Green Pearl Metallic, Medium Red Metallic, Silver Metallic, White, Wildfire Red, and Yellow. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.
Parting Shots
There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Tracker Base sold well in 2002. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Tracker.
