Getting 19 Miles a Gallon: The 2008 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LT

February 18th, 2010

Consumers who buy a Chevrolet Suburban 2500 are often enthusiastic about their purchase. Since its launch the Suburban 2500 has been one of the workhorses of the Chevrolet brand. This has always been a meaningful truck, and the 2008 model is no different. A sport utility for everyone in the family is what the Chevrolet Suburban 2500 provides.

Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Engine Specs

The restyled Suburban 2500 LT is equipped with a 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The 2008 Suburban 2500’s exceptional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection style of design. The fuel capacity of the truck is 39.00 gallons.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The Suburban 2500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by torsion bar front springs and leaf in the rear.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Suburban 2500 LT are 79.10 inches wide by 222.40 inches long. It sits 76.80 inches off the ground. It seats a standard eight passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 130.00 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $39,495 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $36,138. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

The standard warranty period for the Suburban 2500 is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 60 months or 100,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the sport utility market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2008 Suburban 2500 gets 19 miles/gallon on the highway and only 14 in the city. This is subpar for a sport utility truck.

We Think…

The 2008 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet Suburban 2500. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LT version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the Suburban 2500? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
