Our Review of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LT

November 11th, 2009

Chevrolet Silverado 2500

The 1999 Silverado 2500 is an important vehicle to Chevrolet for the extended cab pickup market segment. The LT is a member of a series of three trim levels for the Silverado 2500 which include Base, LS, and LT. The three-door truck with its four-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Honda.

Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Engine Specs

The Silverado 2500 LT is equipped with a General Motors 5.3 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The Silverado 2500 has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The truck uses coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

The fuel system for the 1999 Silverado 2500 is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 26.00 gallons.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Silverado 2500 LT are 78.50 inches wide by 227.60 inches long. It sits a comfortable 74.00 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 3 doors. The wheelbase of 143.50 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

There is a 36,000 mile, 36 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 36,000/36 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $22,706 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $19,868. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 3-door Extended Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The 1999 Silverado 2500 gets 16 - 19 miles/gallon on the highway and only 12 - 15 in the city. This is exceptional for a extended cab pickup truck.

In 1998 and 1999 the Silverado 2500 LT was availble in the exterior colors of Indigo Blue Metallic, Light Pewter Metallic, Meadow Green Metallic, Medium Charcoal Gray Metallic, Onyx Black, Summit White, and Victory Red. Additional options were made available by the factory.

We Think…

The 1999 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LT version) meant that buyers had several options to choose from..
