Chevrolet Silverado 1500

As time has gone by several things can be said about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series: including the strong reaction most buyers have towards their truck. The 8-cylinder engine is at the core of the strong emotions, it is reliable for its class and delivers a huge amount of torque.

Engine Performance

The restyled Silverado 1500 LS is equipped with a General Motors 5.3-liter 8-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 16 valves. The Vortec engine is paired with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The Silverado 1500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses coil and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

Silverado 1500 LS Statistics

The dimensions of the Silverado 1500 LS are 78.50 inches wide by 222.10 inches long. It sits a comfortable 71.00 inches off the ground. It seats a standard three passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 133.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $18,408 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $16,659. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

For the 2002 Silverado 1500, the fuel delivery system is a electronic SFI, using FLEX for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 34.00 gallons.

The Silverado 1500 LS received a miles-per-gallon rating of 15 - 16 in-city driving and 19 - 21 when it came to long-distance. Being a flex-powered hybrid truck, this was subpar.

In Summary

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS sold well in 2002. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Silverado 1500.
