Chevrolet Silverado 1500

People who buy a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are often happy with purchase. For over a decade, the Silverado 1500 has been one of the mainstays of the Chevrolet brand. This has always been a meaningful truck, and the 1999 model is no different. A extended cab pickup for everyone in the household is what the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 delivers.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Engine Specs

The restyled Silverado 1500 LT is equipped with a General Motors 4.3-liter 6-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 12 valves. The Vortec engine is paired with a New Venture 5-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

The 1999 Silverado 1500’s traditional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection style of design. The fuel tank holds 34.00 gallons.

The Silverado 1500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses coil and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Silverado 1500 LT are 78.50 inches wide by 222.00 inches long. It sits a comfortable 71.00 inches off the ground. It seats a standard three passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 133.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The listed retail price in 1999 (MSRP) was $19,870, with an invoice cost of $17,386. This price is above average of the industry average price for a two-door Extended Cab Pickup.

A powertrain warranty is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. This is standard for the price range.

Fuel Efficiency

The 1999 Silverado 1500 gets 20 - 23 miles/gallon on the highway and only 16 - 17 in the city. This is exceptional for a extended cab pickup truck.

We Think…

The 1998 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The 1999 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Silverado 1500 LT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

I saw the recent news about Chevrolets and their reliability. I personally would check out web sites like edmunds.com and others before I made a choice of a truck like the Silverado 1500.

There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the Silverado 1500? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
