First Impressions of the Chevrolet Lumina APV for 1992

The Chevrolet Lumina APV is a 3-door van available at your Chevrolet dealer. The Lumina APV came in two configurations: CL and Base. The Base configuration is powered by the 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine, which makes 23 highway miles and 18 city. The Lumina APV competes in the Mini Passenger Van market segment, in direct competition with Toyota.

Under the Hood

Chevrolet Lumina APV Engine Specs: The Lumina APV Base comes outfitted with a Buick 3.8 liter, 6-cylinder motor that uses 12 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is mated to a four-speed transaxle by General Motors. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for Chevrolet.

The Lumina APV uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The van uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Lumina APV Base are 73.90 inches wide by 194.20 inches long. It sits 65.70 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 3 doors. The wheelbase of 109.80 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $15,570 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 3-door Mini Passenger Van.

Fuel Efficiency

The 1992 Lumina APV’s exceptional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection style of design. The fuel capacity of the van is 20.00 gallons.

The Lumina APV Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of eighteen in-city driving and twenty three when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid van, this was exceptional.

We Think…

The 1992 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet Lumina APV. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Base version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.

I saw the recent news about Chevrolets and their reliability. I personally would check out web sites like edmunds.com and others before I made a choice of a van like the Lumina APV.

There’s no doubt that Chevrolet is up to it’s old tricks with the Lumina APV? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
